Handel wrote Dixit Dominus for Cardinal Ottoboni in Rome, who requested it in 1707 for a household concert during Lent when Italian stage works were forbidden in churches.

Bach wrote Cantata 214 for the birthday of Maria Joseph, Archduchess of Austria, Electress of Saxony, and Queen of Poland, in 1733, when he was working in Leipzig.

And The King Shall Rejoice was for the Coronation of King George II, on October 11, 1727
